Second grade: Wire Armatures

It may not look like much, but this pile of wires is the beginning of second grade's plaster statues. Last week, they compared and contrasted sculptures and statues, discovering many different materials can be used to create sculptures.  Students then sketched ideas for a figure in motion. The first class has begun bending, twisting and wrapping wire into a figure. They all found this to be way more challenging than it looks! With practice and persistence, they will all learn how to manipulate this material.

Second Grade: tints and shades

Second grade looked at and discussed a presentation about pattern, repetition, and rhythm. After filling the paper with rhythmic repeating lines, they mixed and painted with tints and shades of one color.

Kindergarten: Form Figures

Kindergarten students formed model magic into spheres and cylinders to create these relief sculptures of their family. Prior to making the project, they practiced using shapes to draw figures and practiced making the forms with play dough.

First Grade: Pinch bowls

First grade has been working with excitement to make pinch bowls with clay. This is one of my favorite lessons. For a majority of my students this is their first experience with clay.

After the bisque firing, students could choose 2 colors to glaze the pottery. The glaze firing is happening today!

Update: Happy Monday to the first graders:
